Jie Fan, Master of Environment, Tailored Program, Sustainable Food focus
The Master of Environment has helped me to move from my background in cultural studies to something that I am really interested in – sustainable food production. I value being able to tailor my own path of study, which has allowed me to gain critical viewpoints from different disciplines.
I have also had opportunities to gain practical experiences from the internship subjects, which has been extraordinarily useful to me as an international student to work towards my ideal career path.
Timothy Shue – Master of Environment, Sustainable Cities and Sustainable Regions specialisation
Within the Master of Environment program I am in the Sustainable Cities and Sustainable Regions stream. I look at a broad range of issues and dynamics to do with city-regions from a multidisciplinary perspective, which has included subjects from sustainable consumption and environmental economics. My background is in geography and politics and prior to starting this course I was a scientific communicator for a peak industry body.
Some highlights of the course for me so far have been taking the China Field class which was an amazing experience. Our research group visited parks in different Chinese cities collecting surveys from people about accessibility to urban green spaces. By the end of 2016 I will also have completed my research project looking at the environmental and social impacts of sharing economies. In 2017 I hope to undertake an international internship (hopefully in Denmark) to finish off the course.
