Scholarships & Awards
Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship should submit a combined course and scholarship application by the relevant closing dates. Applications will be accepted after the closing date, however, there will be limited availability of scholarships for late applicants.
You may also be eligible for various scholarships, awards and prizes offered by the Faculty of Science.
The Melbourne Scholarships Program offers a range of scholarships to international graduate research students. These include the Melbourne Research Scholarships (which usually include a full fee remission) and Research Training Program Scholarships.
Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS)
Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS) are funded by the University of Melbourne and awarded to eligible international students for graduate research study. Science students can receive a MRS for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Science.
To be competitive for a MRS, you must have consistent results of at least H2A/upper second class (or equivalent). Applicants who can demonstrate a significant role in a research publication(s) and/or significant work experience will have this factor taken into consideration when determining scholarship eligibility.
Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships
RTP scholarships are funded by the Australian Federal Government and awarded to students wanting to undertake graduate research degree studies.
An RTP scholarship covers full tuition fees for each year of a course, the annual Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC - single cover), and a living allowance, thesis allowance and other benefits. For a full list and details of benefits and conditions please refer to the Graduate Scholarships Conditions Booklet.
The entry requirements for a scholarship are normally higher than the entry requirements to the course. To be competitive for an RTP scholarship, you must have very strong results of a high H1 grade (90% average), or first class equivalent. Applicants who can demonstrate a significant role in a research publication(s) and/or significant work experience will have this factor taken into consideration when determining scholarship eligibility.
For a full list of benefits and conditions for the RTP and MRS scholarships please refer to the Graduate Scholarships Conditions Booklet.
